Western Edition

Western Edition Skateboards was founded in San Francisco in 1999 by Kent Uyehara and Ian Johnson. The name Western Edition is derived from the “Western Addition” neighborhood in the city. It has a long history from the Ohlone, the city’s indigenous people, to small farmland, to Victorian streetcar suburbia, to “Little United Nations,” to the bustling enclave of Japantown, to the Harlem of the West, to Fillmore. WE’s style is rooted in a blend of mid-century Black American music, early 1900s modernism, San Francisco history, athletics and skateboarding.
